Adult Literary and Skills Training

The illiteracy rate in some areas in Kenya can be up to 87%, which is shocking. This is mainly due to lack of schools and lack of finances in nomadic communities who live in these areas.
In Amboseli our adult literacy project is specifically set up to empower women, in particular FGM circumcisers, so that they retire their blades and earn money in more ethical means such as agriculture, tailoring or handicrafts.
In order to set up women who have undergone skills training in their own mini enterprise, they are first given basic literacy training and then business management training, ensuring that at the end of their learning journey they will have got a strong foundation to a successful career and more importantly will be able to support their family, thus paving the way forward for mothers to send their children to school.
